In Surah 5/5 Allah says,“This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not musāfiḥīna (being lewd) or taking akhdānin (secret lovers). The Arabic word musāfiḥīna comes from the root sīn fā ḥā (س ف ح) which means to shed/flow, outpoured/spilled,
musafihun – one who commits fornication or adultery, take unlawfully (women).
The Arabic word “akhdanin” and the plural of “khidn” with the root kh-d-n and has the following meanings:
- -Amorous friends, companions or associates [male or female]
- -Friends, companions or associates affected with sensual appetency [male or female]
- -Friends, companions or associates to commit fornication with them in secret [male or female]“And whoever among you cannot [find] the means to marry free, believing women, then [he may marry] from those whom your right hands possess of believing slave girls. And Allah is most knowing about your faith. You [believers] are of one another. So marry them with the permission of their people and give them their due compensation according to what is acceptable. muḥ’ṣanātin (They should be chaste), musāfiḥātin (neither [of] those who commit immorality) muttakhidhāti (nor those who take) akhdānin (secret lovers). But once they are sheltered in marriage, if they should commit adultery, then for them is half the punishment for free [unmarried] women. This [allowance] is for him among you who fears sin, but to be patient is better for you. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” 4/25

“walyastaʿfifi (And let be chase) those who are not able to marry until Allah enriches them of His Bounty. And if those who are still dependants seek marriage, then marry them off if you find that they are ready, and give them from the wealth of Allah which He has bestowed upon you. And do not force your daughters into marriage when they have desired independence, in order that you may make a gain in the goods of this worldly life. But if anyone has compelled them, then for their compulsion, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”

Allah says in Surah 29/6

Some Muslims today believe that the Qur’an only condemns the male homosexuals in the Qur’an and not the lesbians. There some Muslims who don’t believe the Qur’an condemns neither homosexuality or lesbianism. They don’t believe that these type of behaviors can be very harmful to society in the long run. Its been said that a crime is defined by an act which one commits KNOWING its harmful. Would a homosexual and lesbian be held accountable not knowing that their behavior was detrimental towards society?
“And those who approach fāḥishata (immorality) among your nisāikum (women), call to four among you to bear witness against them . Then, if they bore witness to the affair, then, hold them back in their houses until death gathers them to itself or Allah makes a way for them.” 4/15
“And the two who yatiyānihā (commit it) among you, dishonor them both. But if they repent and correct themselves, leave them alone. Indeed, Allah is ever Accepting of repentance and Merciful.” 4/16
The Chopping Block the origin of homosexuality at least coming at the view of its inception:
Today, we are subjected to so many laws and customs in society that what looks bad is good and what looks good is really bad. Homosexuality to me is a case close situation. Hence, I have no problem for the homosexuals wanting them to be themselves in closed doors because truly that is between them and their God, on the other hand, I am a father and I have a responsibility to my children. One of the responsibility is that I make sure that my children are raised properly without society, culture and tradition coming to impose their influences so my responsibility is to fight and to make sure any flaws presented in their innocent minds. These homosexuals don’t realize the harm they bring to our societies and our innocent children and they deceive them by lying to them and manipulate them as they grow up so they can support their sexual perversion act which is a doomed act.
This is how the homosexual movement are manipulating and deceiving our children in their schools in making it seem like homosexuality is normal.

Does the Qur’an prohibit homosexuality? Yes it does. Does Allah use the actual word homosexuality no. But we will deal with this issue later on in terms of what does Allah say about this particular sexual perversion.
Definition of homosexual:
Homosexual is defined by the Merriam-Webster-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary as
“Of relating to or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same-sex…of, relating to or involving sexual intercourse between persons of the same-sex.”
It’s clear that homosexuality is clearly defined in terms of sexual activity. While other qualities may be thought to hold near importance, sex is the primary and ultimate characteristic distinguishing it from heterosexuality. Hence, common sense tells us that real life definitions should not be based on what ideally exist in the advocate’s mind or the ‘proofs’ of those opinions as validated through their seductive political science. Objective definitions should accurately reflect existing or known reality.
In reality, homosexuals have little to no choice but to engage in either sodomy, fellatio and/or other forms of oral sex as a means of sexual gratification. Homosexuality is a term that describes a basic and practical sexual activity preference. Homosexuals are those who consciously and voluntarily engage in sexual activities with members of the same-sex. Homosexuality is a Western phenomenon clearly that has a central and dominant sexual component. Its only through the media with its political definition of homosexual behavior that homosexuality is natural to define it first and foremost as an emotional grounding in love. The political definition makes homosexuality innocent and natural.
No matter how hard the Western homosexual scholarly alliance try to make it natural, homosexuality is not universal, in either origin or evolution. The Key operative is to be mindful that whatever official definition we are presented with it is only that of the creators and spreaders of the phenomenon.
On the question of whether or not males who engage in homosexual activities are by default homosexuals, Sister Souljah summarizes this in a way that reflects a very interesting point. She brings up this point of confusion in males who have wittingly allowed other males to perform oral sex on them but do not do it back (a point which also has implications for males who sodomize other males). Her character ‘Will’ is a homosexual who is obviously confused as to his sexual classification. In denial of his homosexuality, because he is not giving oral sex or being sodomized, he states his preference for males performing fellatio on him because “Men got stronger jaws”. That sh*t feels even better. Many of these ‘closet queens’ have convinced themselves that only the sexually penetrated or serving partner is homosexual. Hence, you are a homosexual by your willing act, your voluntary participation, not your image.
Homosexuals are defined as those who participate in homosexual behaviors whether you give or take. I repeat, ‘Homosexuals are defined as those who participate in homosexual behaviors whether you give or take.’ Those both participate in homosexual behaviors are homosexuals both or all participants. This definition does not crumble or become diluted because you are an ‘active’ versus ‘passive’ participant. There is no loopholes in the homosexual classification, except for those of absolute free of this but who are violated.
People try to make the definition of homosexuality become an emotional and voluntary act saying their emotional connection to the same sex rather male/male or female/female and those who willingly commit the sexual perversion it seems people become emotionally involved with their animal pets, their weapons, their religion, their plants, their reflections yet being emotionally involved does not however in and of itself validate anything.
With Merriam-Webster’s definition why has this definition been avoided? Its a known fact that confusion among slaves facilitates their control. Yet, given the fact that homosexuality is a very sensitive and delicate topic to many the definition is confusing and broad enough to disguise and demphasize its most peculiar and abundant practices among those for whom homosexuality has been imbedded through their cultural genes.
The Origin of Homosexuality
From the Quranic perspective homosexuality began in Sodom and Gomarrah but since I’m just coming from a historic point of view and not a religious one at the moment I’m going to keep it in this line of view that homosexuality began with the Europe civilization. It was initiated by ‘a number of protohistorical Indo-Europeans peoples’ out of which the Greeks evolved. They in turned passed it on to the Romans who passed it on to their children the Europeans who continued to spread it throughout the world as they forced their culture oin it. There is no credible evidence, real or imagined as to its origin anywhere else before them except the Qur’an.
According to historical documentation homosexuality evolved out of the fundamental, asilic disrespect of women in Greece. The respect for their women in Greece was very low men had towards their women. Cultures that are born with or develop a disrespectful attitude toward women, toward the need for them and their God given humanity and worth, also manifest widespread male to male love at an intellectual and sexual level. So these imbalanced, highly individualistic cultures where men are given all power nurture and extreme, arrogant vanity that produce homosexuality. In European words, “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
We have do remember and do the research about Europe, European society is homogenic. It naturally injects the homosexual biocultural gene in those it produces. In other words a god vying egotism promotes an excessive, distorted self love among those who see themselves as the new gods. And an overly inflated, unnatural self love can only be arrogant in its appreciation of those who are its mirror image. Once this was introduced the corruption knows no boundaries. Historically, homosexuality did not develop in those cultures expressing and developing a deep sense of loyalty and gratitude for women. This is a direct connection between respect for women and the singular ascendancy of the heterosexual procreative male/female bond. Hence, homosexuality did not develop where motherhood was sacred and honored. In causation/cause and effect as respect for women declines, homosexuality and other sexual perversion increase.
Fine European Art
There is no doubt that language and are reflects culture and speak to its priorities and practices. Language as one of the most important aspects of human civilization, always tells a people’s story so if we truly examine Greeco-Roman texts, we will find they are full of homosexuality in action.

The wisdom behind Allah Taala prohibiting homosexuality seems to be for the same reason He has prohibited the consumption of pork.
A Pedagogy of Submission
It seems that the Greeks and Romans used a ritual of homosexuality in the form of sodomization to control the ambitions and egos of their male youth. Was pederasty or sodomization of boys by men viewed by these Greeks and Romans as a normal and necessary right of passage to control and direct young males into manhood while at the same time removing the threat of boys taking power away from men? Were European boys forced to submit to being sexually violated, or did they willing seek out what they surely knew would be painful and compromising anal entry by an adult male’s penis in order to secure his ‘love’ and learning?‘
Based from historical facts, European men saw everyone else including boys as a threat to their power. In fact, the boy played the passive role in these homosexual rites of passage. He, therefore was sexually manipulated and exploited at the whim of the adult male who was the active participant and ‘teacher’. He was forced to bend over and be sodomized. The adult male forced him to bend forward, spread his buttocks cheeks, and then be forcefully sodomized. The adult male used his penis as a weapon. Hence, with this compromising position, it became a very effective instrument for teaching him humility and obedience to men. Boys were in no positions mentally or physically to negotiate their sexual exploitation.
Great care was even paid attention to to match a man with a boy was of similar height. The victim’s ‘advantage’ was given to taller boys. Sodomy rape could be made less cumbersome for a man if the victim was his own height. In Greek mythology it agrees. Initially in their beginning they believe there was chaos, a disorder on high resulting from disgruntled goddesses conspiring with their son gods overthrow their husbands. Greek mythology reflected Greek social policy and culture. European women had been harshly suppressed since before the time of the Greeks. Only recently have they come close to their own in exercising power against European men. Their position was undermined by law and the vicious and violent enforcement of these laws that made them no more than things, appendages to the whim and power of men because they were seen as a direct, mature threat to men’s power.
According to Greek mythology, sons as gods had been clearly indentified as being in cahoots with their mothers as gods against their fathers as gods. If human females were crushed and kept in that position for many centuries because of the mythology that arouse out of the real, misogynistic fears of men, why would sons be exempt? The fear of boys was the same fear European men held of women, although they saw them as male, which by default elevated them on the scale of humanity and immature which lowered their potential for politically organized rebellion. It wasn’t until the Greek rites of passage of a dominating and instructing sodomistic rape, accompanied by intellectual lessons and control, removed the threat for all intents and purposes.

Now what does the Qur’an has to say about this behavior? There are specific references in the Qur’an which speaks on homosexual and lesbian behavior. Some obviously deal with effeminate men and “masculine women.” The two main references to homosexual behavior are:
Allah says, ”We also sent Lut : He said to liqawmihi (his people): “atatūna (Do ye commit) fāḥishata (lewdness) as no one has preceded you with from among the worldss. Verily, with you approach rijāla (men) shahwatan (lustfully) instead of nisāi (the women): nay, but you qawmun (are people) given to excesses!”" 7/80-81
“What! Of all creatures do ye come unto dhuk’rāna (the males), watadharūna (and leave) azwājikum (your mates) your Lord khalaqa (created) for you? Nay, but ye are forward folk.” 26/165

And when Our messengers, came to Lot, he was anguished for them and felt for them great discomfort and said, “This is a trying day.” And qawmuhu (his people) came hastening to him, and before [this] they had been doing sayiāti (the evil deeds). He said, “yāqawmi (O my people), banātī (these are my daughters); they are purer for you. So fear Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you rajulun (a man) of reason?” 11/77-79
Homosexuality is a choice and people are not born with gay genes. These people who make a god (ilah) of there own lusts are clearly people who transgress the limits. Prophet Lut spoke against this evil practice of his people. Their only reply was: “Bring us the Wrath of Allah if thou tellest the truth.”
They soon found out who was telling the truth when Allah destroyed them all. Let it be known there is NO SUCH THING AS A GAY MUSLIM!!! A Muslim is one who submits himself/herself to the will of Allah. Those who practice this evil of sexual perversion have submitted themselves to their own whims/desires and have turned their backs on the clear injunctions and laws of the Quranic ayats. These people will use any kind of rationalization to justify their sinful and lustful practices. Be not deceived by the smooth tactics of Shaytanu. He will try everything to guide us astray.

More research on this new phenomenon movement called ‘Gay Rights’
As it seems homosexuality is, of course, not a new behavior. As the Qur’an says this behavior was prevalent among the people of Lut. It was practiced in Greece and Rome. In the West it was practiced but usually in fewer numbers and in secrecy, not with an “in your face” attitude as it does in the West now in later centuries.
The Homosexual, or the gay as they call themselves, in an attempt to polish or clean up their image, constitute a very active and powerful lobby group. They have strong political and social ties and access to the elites of the society, especially in the US, up to and including President Clinton. Even though majority of the people in the US believe that homosexual behavior is wrong, it is intriguing, but never the less remarkable, that the homosexuals have gained public acceptance for their behavior in a very short period of time. The homosexual’s agenda is a very simple one to make their behavior acceptable as NORMAL, and in the process recruit more to their ranks. They have a sophisticated and multifaceted campaign to achieve their political and ideological goals.
These goals include active participation in social and political issues other than their immediate ones, like feeding the hungry and dealing with human right issues. They put their cause and equated it to the Black civil rights cause and say they are the ‘minority’. They promote their agenda through legislation, presenting themselves as victims of prejudice and discrimination, helping to enact the gender discrimination act, legalizing and securing full benefits for same gender marriage, funding research similar to the hypothalamus issue (which shows a genetic propensity to homosexuality), teaching at even kindergarten level that the two-male or the two female can make a family unit which is an acceptable alternative that is even comparable to the traditional MOM and POP family, religious and moral blurring on the stand by establishing gay churches and synagogues, etc. etc.
The most effective milestone in the homosexual movement, was probably when in 1976 the American Psychiatric Association (APA) declared that homosexuality was no longer to be considered an illness but was to be regarded merely as an orientation or a sexual variant. The rest, as they say, is history. This made a lot of people very suspicious of the scientific community, who went against known scientific data that the homosexual behavior can be changed. Even though the APA has taken an official stand, this debate continues and many prominent members of APA oppose this stand. Again this has happened and continues to happen even in religious circles, amongst Muslims and others, where experts or priests make pronouncements in favor of those from whom they stand to gain favors at the expense of the masses and against clear moral and/or scientific stands supporting the contrary or opposite views.
The homosexual movement has a strong network of support groups who encourage each other to “come out of the closet”, thus advancing and actively promoting this behavior. They thrive on conflict amongst the family and/or community members. They have been known to provide moral, psychological, social, and financial support to any one of their own who is making the transition into their lifestyle or who is “coming out of the closet”, so to speak.
They use proven methodologies in changing social acceptability and behavior towards themselves. Like the shows on television, they will introduce the radical issue which will provoke a hue and cry from all quarters the first time out, the second time there is less and in subsequent times the opposition will die out. They then discuss, or frame the issue as it is known, to convince us of their legitimacy and how wrong, narrow minded and bigots all these moralists are. The trick is to say it enough times, and what was once a taboo to even talk about is becoming normal, acceptable, and even desirable to more and more people.
They now have an annually “Gay Pride Parade” in many US cities with full fledged TV coverage. A “Gay Pride Month” has been established in some school districts to remove bigotry and prejudice. Additionally, colleges and universities have a profound impact on the intellectual development of our young people. However, most of these institution are a bedrock of secular extremism and promote all other values except the divine ones. In these circles, it is politically and socially acceptable to talk about, promote and experiment with all behaviors, homosexuality included, but to discuss and further divine values is considered being close minded and narrow. The argument from some of the elites of these institutions is that we need to adhere to the separation of church and state, which has historical merit. In fact, it is obvious to most observers that what is meant is to take God out of the equation and confine Him to the walls of homes, mosques, churches, and synagogues on.
This is basic research of the homosexual movement that I have taken to try and understand various movements, religious and those based on other various causes, that have succeeded to transform themselves from being the abhorred or persecuted groups to becoming key players in the American society. First it was the homosexual movement then it will be next the pedophilia movement.
Homosexual movement is one of them, the others are the Irish Catholics, the Quakers, etc. The reason for providing the background information here is to first to come to grips with the sophisticated nature of the problem, and know who we and our youths are dealing with. The second is to enable us to formulate an effective response to it.
We know in the Qur’an Allah makes it clear that He has created everything in pairs each endowed with physical and psychological characteristics to complement and complete one another.
Allah says in Surah 4/1
“O mankind, fear your Lord, who khalaqakum (created you) from wāḥidatin (one) nafsin (soul) and created from it zawjahā (its mate) wabatha (and dispersed) min’humā (from both of them) kathīran (many) rijālan (men) wanisāan (and women). And fear Allah , through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.”
Surah 4/1 indicates that human beings have been created from wāḥidatin (one) living entity (nafs), which represents the origin of both the male and the female. The human species though has included male and female since its existence. The “mating” or “spousing” of male and female sexes is original rather natural in human nature and out of this instinctive relationship the human race develops, continues and spreads and this is what keeps human beings in existence. If it was the other way around having more or majority of the human population be homosexuals and lesbians we would become decimated in numbers risking extinction.
The Qur’an tells us between the two sexes of men and women, or males and females a gravitating combination of love, tenderness, and care is engendered, so that each finds in the other completeness, tranquility, and support.
In Surah 30/21 Allah says,
“And of His āyātihi (signs) is that khalaqa (He created) lakum (for you) min (from) anfusikum (yourselves) azwājan (mates) that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that laāyātin (are signs) liqawmin (for a people) who give thought.”
“And Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then jaʿalakum (He made you) azwājan (pairs). And no unthā (female) taḥmilu (conceives) nor give birth except with His knowledge. And no aged person is granted life nor is his lifespan lessened but that it is in a register. Indeed, that for Allah is easy.” 35/11
Its clear also that having children and loving them represents another fulfillment of the human nature which again is a natural process according to the Qur’an.
In Surah 42/49-50
“To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what he wills. He gives to whom He wills ināthan (female), and He gives to whom He wills dhuk’rānan (males). Or He makes them dhuk’rānan (males) wa-ināthan (and females), and He renders whom He wills barren. Indeed, He is Knowing and Competent.”
Hence, it is through this spousal complementary and completion, according to the Surah 7/189
that each spouse achieves comfort, and enjoys peace of mind, satisfaction, and fulfillment. These relationships extend beyond the physical sexual contact and to psychological, spiritual relations.
“It is He who khalaqakum (created you) from wāḥidatin (one) nafsin soul wajaʿala (and made) min’hā (from it) zawjahā (its mate) liyaskuna (that he might dwell) ilayhā (with her). taghashāhā (And when he covers her), ḥamalat (she carries) a light ḥamlan (burden) and continues therein. And when athqalat (she becomes heavy), daʿawā (they both) invoke Allah , their Lord, “If ātaytanā (You should give us) ṣāliḥan (a righteous), we will surely be among the grateful.” 7/189
This blessings of this completeness are not ended by their accomplishment, but they continue and develop through bringing forth children, raising them, and providing the whole family with material, emotional, and moral needs. It is the pleasure of completion and procreation may well be extended and multiplied, when one is granted grand children, who not only represent genealogical continuation, but are also a dynamic revitalization of the human race.
This can only be done through the relationship of a male and female that involves such physical-psychological-spiritual development through spousing and mating, followed by procreation, that may continue for more than one generation, ought to lead every sensible human being to be grateful to Allah for His successive and multiplying favors with his own family throughout his lifetime. This is what help us as human beings and our families would be models for the whole society given to us in the Book of Allah.
We have to remember that homosexuality is an issue that concerns most all human beings no matter what part of the globe we are located and we all share a common value.
We, as Muslims, have benefit and blessings of divine guidance and wisdom. The Quran reminds us that Allah will change the condition of the people only if they themselves put forth the effort Surah 13/11
“For each one are successive before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allah . Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.”
The Qur’an teaches us that homosexual acts or sexual perversion are sinful and punishable by Allah. This teaching comes not from human beings, but from the Creator of all humans. Allah tells us in His own words how He punished the people of Lot for their homosexual or sexual perversion behaviour.
The story of prophet Lot finds mention in several Qur’anic passages, especially Surah 26/160-175 which reads:
“The people of Lut rejected the apostles. Behold, their brother Lut said to them: “Will ye not fear Allah? “I am to you an apostle worthy of all trust. “So fear Allah and obey me. “No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the lord of the Worlds. “Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach dhuk’rāna (males), “And leave those whom God has khalaqa (created) lakum (for you) to be azwājikum (your mates)? Nay, ye are a people ādūna (transgressing)!” They said: “If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!” He said: “I do detest your doings.” “O my Lord! deliver me and my family from such things as they do!” So We delivered him and his family,- all Except an old woman who lingered behind. But the rest We dammarnā (destroyed) utterly. wa-amṭarnā (We rained) ʿalayhim (upon them) maṭaran (a rain) fasāa (and evil) maṭaru (was the shower) mundharīna (on those who were admonished)! Verily in that laāyatan (surely is a Sign): but most of them do not believe. And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might Most Merciful.”
From these ayats Allah tells us clearly that Allah saved Lot and the righteous ones of his family, and rained on the rest a shower of brimstone, so they were utterly destroyed. This is mentioned in the Qur’an not only for the sake of information but mainly to serve as a warning to anyone who dares to repeat such acts.
Lets be real if the homosexuals, gays, lesbians can promote their wrong values with vigor and succeed, we have a duty and a responsibility to not only make an effort to arrest this trend, but also to invest our time, energy, and resources to promote the divine values with as much zeal.

Their Fact Sheet on Sexual Orientation (2000) sums it up: “There are no replicated scientific studies supporting any specific biological etiology for homosexuality”.
As to the ability for homosexuals to change, late last year a remarkable research paper was published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour (October 2003) by one of America’s senior psychiatrists, Dr Robert Spitzer. Significantly, this was the same Spitzer whose reforming zeal helped delete homosexuality from the American Psychiatric Association’s manual of mental disorders back in 1973.
Now he has published a detailed review of “200 Participants Reporting a Change from Homosexual to Heterosexual orientation”. He writes of his research: “Although initially sceptical, in the course of the study, the author became convinced of the possibility of change in some gay men and lesbians.“
In his structured analysis of homosexuals who claimed to have changed their orientation through “reparative therapy”, he concluded that the therapy had been genuinely effective: that “almost all of the participants reported substantial changes in the core aspects of sexual orientation, not merely overt behaviour”. Against critics who say that attempts to change sexual orientation can cause emotional harm to homosexuals, he notes: “For the participants in our study, there was no evidence of harm”.

So I’m assuming that you’re talking about the right to legally enter a relationship with a younger partner, essentially removing the age of consent law.
It’s a complicated question. Say you did remove the law. On the one hand, you’d have those kids and adults who are genuinely in a committed, loving relationship that both of them want to be in who’d now be free to share their feelings and tell everyone about it, which would definitely be better for them than keeping it all secret. You’d also have kids who are being molested and raped who, up until this point have had no idea what to think about what’s happening to them because all this stuff is secret and not talked about, coming forward more than reporting that they’re being raped, because for the first time they’d have a “normal” adult-child relationship to compare it to and no discussion taboos to prevent them from coming forward. Those are both very good things, obviously (at least from my perspective).
On the other hand, you’d have the situation the law was originally designed to prevent – the poor kid who isn’t ready for any of this stuff and gets talked into sex with no clue what he’s getting into and winds up feeling used, discarded and hurt over the experience. It’s not really fair to kids like that to just throw them to the wolves, but how do you protect them while still allowing the others their freedom? A “sex license”, like a driver’s license, that kids have to get if they want to be in a relationship before a certain age so that society can determine if they’re ready for it? Who would set the standards for something like that? Or maybe before a certain age the relationship is only legal with parental permission? That wouldn’t solve much, parents tend to disapprove of who their kids date even when it’s other kids, and everyone just sneaks around behind their backs anyway and you have essentially the same deal we have now. I don’t really have an answer for this part, you’d have to replace it with /something/ but it’s just not clear what.”

A Greek court has been asked to draw the line between gay women and the natives of the Aegean Sea island of Lesbos.
Three islanders from Lesbos – home of the ancient poet Sappho, who praised love between women – have taken a gay rights group to court for using the word “lesbian” in its name. On Wednesday, one of the plaintiffs said that the name of the association, the Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece, “insults the identity” of the people of Lesbos, who are also known as Lesbians.
“My sister can’t say she is a Lesbian,” Dimitris Lambrou said.
“Our geographical designation has been usurped by certain ladies who have no connection whatsoever with Lesbos,” he said.
The three plaintiffs are seeking to have the group barred from using “lesbian” in its name and filed a lawsuit on April 10.
A spokeswoman for the Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece said the action was “a joke in bad taste that borders on discrimination”.
“I don’t see how the word can be an insult,” Evangelia Vlami said.
“We don’t think doubt can be cast on dictionaries … even the United Nations refer to us as lesbians.“
Old name
Also called Mytilene, after its capital, Lesbos is famed as the birthplace of Sappho. The island, particularly the lyric poet’s reputed home town of Eressos, is a favoured holiday destination for gay women.

“This is not an aggressive act against gay women,” Lambrou said.
“Let them visit Lesbos and get married and whatever they like. We just want [the group] to remove the word lesbian from their title.”
He said that the plaintiffs targeted the group because it is the only officially registered gay group in Greece to use the word lesbian in its name.
The case will be heard in an Athens court on June 10.
Sappho lived from the late 7th to the early 6th century BC and is considered one of the greatest poets of antiquity.
Many of her poems contain passionate references to love for other women.

Lambrou said the word ”lesbian” has only been linked with gay women in the past few decades.
“But we have been Lesbians for thousands of years,” said Lambrou, who publishes a small magazine on ancient Greek religion and technology that frequently criticises the Christian Church.
Vlami, the gay group spokeswoman, said any misunderstanding can easily be resolved through linguistics.
“Most people from Lesbos prefer to use the word Mytilene, which is the more ancient version and because some people may be afraid of being misunderstood,” she said.
“I don’t see what the problem is … Can’t a woman just say: I am from the island of Lesbos?”
Lambrou says Sappho was not gay.
“But even if we assume she was, how can 250,000 people of Lesbian descent – including women – be considered homosexual?”

Because of the Western individualism that compels us to attach the names with individuals, and not cultures or a people to the origin of ‘first’ thoughts and behaviors. Female homosexuality is generally attributed to Sappho. Yet, she was not the first, for female homosexuality greatly preceded her in Greek society. She just happened to be a prominent figure in the first ‘European’ society where male and female homosexuality was openly and commonly embraced. Being in Greece, and being culturally Greek, she did as Greeks did.
Hence, the Isle of Lesbos was not inhabited only by women. No, it has nothing to do with Spain. None of that.
Actually, in Sappho’s time, the stereotype of the women of Lesbos wasn’t that they only slept with women; it was that they were very sexual, and in particular, liked giving head to men. However, the island became famous because of the poetry of Sappho, a woman who lived on Lesbos, who wrote several odes describing the beauty and sexuality of women.
The general attitude toward lesbians at the time was very different from the attitude toward gay men. Gay men were pretty reviled in post-Roman Europe. However, lesbians were looked at more with pity – “Aww, look at those poor women — so desperate for a man’s touch that they turn to each other!” Men generally thought of lesbians that they just needed the right guy to sleep with them, and wrote pretty bawdy/degrading (albeit sometimes sympathetic) stuff in poetry, song, and literature about them.

Sappho’s name is only connected to its origin because of her poetic ability and recognition in European history as a ‘first’ female to pen homosexual verse. She is also known as the influential intellect whose homosexual calling led her to found and lead one of the schools for girls on the island of Lesbos around the 6th century B.C.E. That island was considered a homosexual oasis for females only. In fact, the term ‘Lesbian’ is derived from the name Lesbos.
But here is the thing a lot of people especially females who use lesbian as a sexual orientation didn’t know they are misusing the name lesbian because its a fact even now those who are living on the island of Lesbos, the men and the women are called ‘Lesbian’. In fact, the women of Lesbos were not known for their homosexuality. I repeat, the women of Lesbos were not known for their homosexuality. They were known for their extraordinary ability in performing oral sex on males:
“The erotic renown of the girls of Lesbos on antiquity was attributable to another ‘specialty’: oral sex which according to the ancients was actually invented on this island, and which the Greeks indicated with the verb lesbiazein...The island of Lesbos to the ancient Greeks was not associated with female homoerotism, but with fellatio. Hence, the verbs lesbiazo and lesbizo refer to that practice.”
The term “Lesbian”, in its modern context, is actually quite old; it’s been found back as far as the late 1700s. A similar term was used back in the early 1700s. Other terms that were common at the time were “Sapphoism” and “Tribadism” (although not with its modern, very specific context).
